Our First Arrival: Nordkapp – The Emotional Beginning of Our Journey

Northern Lights, Balkan Bites, Icelandic Dreams, and Iberian Sunsets

North Cape: Our first season was about distance and determination: long northern roads, endless daylight, and the simple magic of reaching the edge of the map. It set the tone for everything that followed: travel as endurance, wonder, and a bit of stubbornness.

The Balkans: Faster rhythms, warmer nights, and a patchwork of cultures, where every border felt like a new chapter. We learned to travel lighter, trust locals, and let spontaneity shape the route.

Iceland: Wind, water, and raw geology: waterfalls, black sand, and a landscape that looks freshly made. It reminded us that nature can be both breathtaking and humbling in the same hour.

Morocco: A new kind of test: the Almería to Nador crossing into Africa, long desert stages, and real sand lessons, sometimes in a convoy of 11 trucks. From Sahara silence to the full sensory overload of Marrakesh, Morocco sharpened our skills and deepened our perspective.

Iberia: We traded dunes for coastlines and mountain roads, and slowed the pace to soak in the everyday moments. Spain and Portugal were about food, ocean air, and finding new stories in shorter distances. We threaded the Pyrenees, lingered on the north coast, and drifted south when it felt right: quiet coves, white villages, and olive country. Still curious, still moving, just with a different rhythm.

Next up is Middle East Europe, where we point the wheels east from Germany. Czech Republic, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, forests and river valleys, old towns, and mountain passes that empty out the further we go. We are skipping the Balkan roads we already know and chasing the ones we don't, with one target on the horizon: Greece by November.

Next Stop - Middle East Europe!

Middle East Europe calls with forests, river valleys, and mountain passes. Czech Republic and Slovenia come first.

We'll wind through Bohemia, climb into the Julian Alps, and drift toward the plains when it feels right. Expect old towns, wild backcountry, and roads that empty out the further east we go. Where tracks are open, we'll take gravel. Where they're closed, we'll enjoy the road and the view.

A few pins are already pulling us in: Lake Bled's quiet water, the Transfagarasan's mountain switchbacks, and the painted monasteries of Bulgaria.

We travel slow to earn our photos and to meet people. The target is Greece by November. See you on the back roads and in the passes.

Long Term Plans have changed. Again.

We spent the last months chasing sun through Iberia and Morocco. Now we're back in Germany, dust barely settled, and already pointing the wheels east.

The new list: Czech Republic, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria. Familiar corners, new ones, and a few places we've wanted to reach for a long time. We're skipping the roads we already know from the Balkan trip and chasing the ones we don't.

No fixed dates, no hard plan. Just a direction and a target. We want to roll into Greece by November, salt air and warm light, before the year winds down.

So that's where we're headed. East, and then south.

Long Term Plans have changed. Again.

Friendship Finds You on the Road

When we set out two years ago, we feared the road would cost us our deep, enduring relationships. So we made a plan: visit old friends along the way, at least one a month, to keep the isolation of long-term travel at bay.

The road had other ideas.

We met so many lovely people out here. A truck like ours is a magnet. Every other week we'd end up in our camper or someone else's, a map spread out between us, swapping bucket list items and the names of places we couldn't stop thinking about.

Real friendships grew out of those nights. You don't see these people often. Some you meet only once, ever. But you stay in touch, online, across borders. You trade tips. You feel their pain when they get stuck somewhere. You point them to the right restaurant or camp spot in a region you've already crossed, and they do the same for you.

Turns out we never needed a plan for friendship on the road. We just needed to be out here, meeting people who caught the travel virus in the same severe form we did.
