From Photos to Purpose: Building Stories, not Graveyard Wealth

What got You into this Lifestyle?
It’s the question we hear most often, especially when we pull into a campsite. People see the size of our truck, the gear, the setup and their curiosity takes over. Often a conversation starts and one way or another the same questions pops up.
There’s a German phrase that perfectly captures the way we’ve chosen to live: „Leben mit Aussicht statt Aussicht auf Leben.“ Loosely translated, it means “A life with a view, not just a view of life.” It is more than just a catchy phrase. It is a mindset that we have embraced after witnessing how fragile life as such can be.
The Wake-Up Call
Our decision to hit the road and live full-time in our home-on-wheels wasn’t made lightly. It came after years of watching friends and family battle illness. Cancer struck people our age, some surviving, others not. It shook us to our core, forcing us to confront a harsh reality: life does not wait!
Seeing friends face challenges changed our perspective. We realized that the future is not guaranteed. Waiting for retirement, more stability, or the elusive “right moment” suddenly seemed risky, even naive. We knew we had to start living our dreams now.
From Dreaming to Doing
For so long, we chased the idea of the “view on life” as a distant hope that one day we would travel, explore, and live freely. The experiences reminded us that life could change in an instant. We didn’t want to spend our healthiest years just planning for a future that might never come.
So we flipped the script. Instead of just looking at life from a distance, we decided to immerse ourselves in it. We chose a lifestyle that lets us wake up each morning with a new view, from mountain peaks to coastal sunsets.
About Money, Choices, and Respect
People sometimes assume that living on the road is only possible with an unlimited budget. That is only part of the truth. We know we have been fortunate. Truth is, we both worked a lot and hard and we also made many quiet choices over years to make this dream come to life.
We started our family early. While friends sent postcards from the Taj Mahal, we were in a small apartment with two little kids playing in the garden. Back then our world felt smaller and a lot of our youthful momentum went into raising children. That season taught us to live lighter, and the same mindset shaped many of our later decisions.
This early lessons thought us to keep vacations smaller and fewer, we skipped long-haul flights, cooked at home more often, passed on the pool when neighbors built one, rarely went to concerts or musicals, and did not chase fancy wines. Today our kids stand on their own feet, earning their own salaries and living their lives, which gives us freedom to travel so early in our lives.
None of this is a rule or a judgment. It is simply how we traded some comforts for this dream, and we respect that every story and every starting point is different. It is all about making conscious choices that honor the life you want to have someday.

We don't want to be the richest in the graveyard, instead we want to have the best funeral stories.
It is about choosing experiences over things, being brave enough to make that decision, and not putting off your dreams for a someday that may never arrive. No more ‘someday’. Someday is now!
What Is Your View?
Are you waiting for the “someday” to live fully? We have learned that life can change in an instant. Waiting might mean missing out. Whether it is taking a walk at sunrise, starting a new passion project, or just calling someone you love. Choose to live with-a-view today. We made our choice after seeing how quickly everything can change. It is not always easy, but it is worth it.
