After the recent travels to North Cape, the rugged tracks of the Balkans, and raw beauty of Iceland, we made a short detour back home. Not for long, but just enough to remind us of all the things we sometimes take for granted when we live life on the road.

Coming Home, Recharging Between Adventures

Home doesn’t just mean four walls and a bed you know by heart. It’s the little things: chatting with neighbors on the sidewalk, running into an old friend while picking up bread rolls at the bakery and walking home together, sharing a laugh over beers in the garage, or spontaneously joining the weekly bike tour with old friends. We squeezed a lot into these two weeks and here’s a little peek behind the curtain.

My home is where the heart is … Sweet to surrender to you only … I send my love to you …

Bike Tours, Beers & Tuesday Traditions

Tuesdays at home mean one thing: the weekly ride with the boys gang. Forty to sixty kilometers through the local trails, followed by a football night in the neighbor's garage. Two, maybe three beers. Stories. Laughter. I joined both Tuesdays we were home. My legs still remember.

Wednesdays With Toastmasters

Since 2018, Wednesdays have been Toastmasters nights. Düsseldorf has one of the largest clubs in the world, and it’s become a close-knit community. Every week, I get to learn from a diverse crowd, consultants, teachers, midwives, poker players, even a professional poet. It's a weekly intellectual adventure of its own.

A Ham Radio Challenge in Hannover

One personal milestone: I finally passed my ham radio license. Im these two weeks there were no exams near Düsseldorf, so I drove all the way to Hannover. The technical part was tough. A real throwback to dusty university days, but I pulled through. I even installed the transceiver myself in the truck cab, which meant a full day of tools, wiring, and crawling behind panels.

A Balkan Wedding to Remember

Last weekend we flew to Belgrade for a wedding like no other. One of my first employees, which became a close friend, celebrated in true Balkan style. Around 200 people, endless music, and zero pauses. No stiff traditions, just dancing, singing, and food, lots of food. Meat with a side of meat, the Balkan way. Man, can those people party. They turned it up to 11/10.

Doctors, Dentists & the Details of Real Life

Of course, a home stop also means catching up with doctors and dentists. Necessary but not exactly blog-worthy. Let’s just say our health check-up quota is up to date.

Truck Tender, Loving and Care

While we were busy with friends and appointments, our truck got some love too. Twiga, the builder of the living unit, made a few improvements. Heating tweaks, proper wiring for the ham radio, and a few other fixes to get us ready for the next leg.

We also brought the truck to MAN for a recall service. There was an important update required to better manage the heat produced by the AdBlue system. Definitely one of those essential but invisible upgrades that help keep everything running smoothly.

This was A Busy Kind of Rest

Coming home can be surprisingly exhausting. But it's a good kind of tired. The kind filled with hugs, catch-ups, shared meals, and laughter that recharges something deeper than energy. It recharges the soul.

These past two weeks filled our social batteries in a way only home can. For those of you not living on the road, this kind of recharge might come from your own rituals. Weekend brunches, quiet evenings with friends, or a spontaneous walk with someone you haven’t seen in years.

For us, recharging means re-anchoring in the familiar, surrounding ourselves with people who know us beyond our travels, and taking a pause that isn’t about stillness but about connection. It reminds us that adventure doesn’t always mean faraway places. Sometimes it’s in the conversations on the sidewalk or the laughs shared over beers in a garage.

And now?

We're preparing for Season 4. First up is Spain. Sun-drenched coastlines, sleepy villages, tapas in the shade, and endless gravel routes calling our name. Then we set our sights on Morocco, where the desert heat, bustling souks, and mountain passes promise a whole new kind of adventure.

The next chapter is just around the corner. Follow our journey, see our destinations, and learn from our stories.

Explore. Dream. Discover.
